This is a sad story of a young girl named ‘Anne Frank’ who died during World War II because of typhus. In this story there were four children named Robert, Herbert, Otto and their sister Leni Frank each one serving in the army. Otto, one of the children, was Anne’s dad. He first met Edith, Anne’s mother, in his brother Herbert’s engagement party and then met again at Italian beach resort of San Remo and fell in love.

They married soon after and, had their first baby named Margot Betti, Anne’s older sister. Margot was always quiet and she slept through her first night immediately. Three years later the Franks had another baby. This one was called Annelies Marie Frank but, everyone called her Anne and she was not a quiet baby! One day, Kati the Frank’s housekeeper found Anne playing outside in the rain. Kati told her to come inside but Anne demanded a story.

Years passed by, the Nazi control grew and they brought in new restrictions. On Anne’s thirteenth birthday, just before they had to go into hiding, Anne was presented with a diary. During the two years in hiding, Anne wrote about events in the Secret Annex, but also about her feelings and thoughts. Eight people lived in the Annex. The people in the Annex were completely dependent on six people who were Anne’s father’s friends and employees. Two years after that they were found and arrested.

They all went to different concentration camps. Margot and Anne were luckily together. Margot died in 1945 at the camp followed by Anne who dies a few days later because of typhus. Otto was the only one who survived from the Annex. One day when Otto returned to his office he told everyone the sad news that no one was coming back. Miep Gies had visited the Annex with the other helpers after the people in the annex got arrested. She had then found Anne’s diary.

She kept the diary for Anne when she would return but, she didn’t. Miep then gave the diary to Otto who read it and shared it with various publishers. Anne’s wish was to be a journalist and later on, a famous writer! I will give this book 10/10 stars because it was sad but, true. The genres for this book are Biography, Graphic novels and Non-Fiction comics. The age level is 11-15 years and grades 6-10.
